中文摘要：众所周知，建国后，尤其是改革开放以来，我国教育事业发展迅速。随着国家及地方政府对教育事业经费投入的不断加大，西部地区教育事业发展迅速，但与东部相比，仍存在较大差距。并且由于历史原因，西部地区发展相对东部大大落后，国家政策的倾斜也影响着政府机关对西部地区的教育投入。

英语教育是国民教育中重要的一环。从建国后五十年来，英语教育在全国各地得到普及。在目前全球化趋势下，国民是否能享受到高水平的英语教育，决定着我国人才是否能汲取到国外科技文化的精华，进而影响着我国高素质人才的输出。而目前我国西部地区特别是乡村，英语教育水平明显落后，英语教育资源明显不足。另外，西部地区城乡英语教育水平差距过大等问题，都说明了这和教育资源的分配不当息息相关。

本文将对我国西部地区英语城乡教育差距展开探讨。探究西部地区的小学英语教育发展条件，分析西部地区乡村小学英语教育落后的历史原因，结合英语教育的特殊性，争取提出切实可行的改善策略。
