Abstract: This study aims at investigate the word-formation and the trends of English cyber-neology. The thesis studies the word-formation of English cyber-neology through the semantic change of neology, in order to make sure that people can fully understand the phenomena of cyber world, and help people better use them. After reviewing the related research achievement, firstly, the author studies the origins and three reasons of cyber-neology ‘scientific scientific and technological factors, political and economic factors, social and cultural factors’. Secondly, the author analyzes the word-formation of English cyber-neology in terms of compounding, shortening, blending, affixation, semantic words, loanwords, and analogy. Thirdly, the author puts forwards tentatively brevity and derivation are the main trends of cyber-neology. Lastly, the paper concludes that this study may help people better understand the social and culture of cyber-neology. In addition, the author also points the shortcomings of thesis.
