Abstract: The translation of names of tourist attractions is a vital aspect of tourism translation. However, the quality of that is far from satisfactory in China at present, because there are still many problems at both linguistic and cultural levels which should be corrected right now. This paper analyzes finds out three main problems in the translation of tourist attractions in Nanjing through on-site inspections——overuse of pinyin, ignorance of cultural elements and multiple versions of the same tourist attraction and offers three correspondent translation strategies in order to improve the translation. The strategies are reader-centered principle, culture-oriented principle, principle of standardization.
