Abstract:Because of its unique characteristics, Cooperative Principle has been a hotspot of sociolinguistics. But most of the studies are conducted on Cooperative Principle with English as language materials. The paper considers movie dialogue of Lost in Thailand as the Corpus. There are many uses of Cooperative Principle in Lost in Thailand and the language is full of Chinese humor features. The thesis begins with the origin of the Cooperative Principle and current status at home and abroad. Then, the paper focuses on verbal humor created by violating the Cooperative Principle. In the end, the author draws a conclusion that most of the verbal humor in Chinese comedy movies achieved the humorous effect by violating the four maxims of CP. And, in some special conditions, violating the CP can promote communication and help to regulate awkward atmospheres.
