Abstract:Jane Eyre is a masterpiece written by Charlotte Bronte in the 19th century. Jane Eyre is a autobiographical novel, the novel tells a story of a young British girl who became an orphan since she was very young. She pursued freedom, equality and dignity despite of many difficulties. She clung to herself and finally gained happiness. By recording Jane Eyre’s four periods of growing, this article shows reader a process of a young girl who transforms into a mature woman. The self-respect and self-renewal character of the heroine attracts many generations of readers with an irresistible charm. This article starts with the source of the heroine’s self-respect, and quotes some related researches to analyze what the influence brought by four periods of growing to form the heroine’s self-respect.
