Abstract:With the development of modern education concept, the traditional teacher-centered learning mode and the student-centered learning mode is being questioned. In the teacher-centered learning mode, students passively accept knowledge conveyed by teachers with teaching materials and learn something that is difficult to apply to real life. While the student-centered learning mode excessively fastens on the development of learners’ individual cognitive ability, neglecting the teacher’s leading role. In order to explore a kind of ideal teaching and learning mode, this paper attempts to apply learning community to English network learning. Network learning mode organically combines the guiding role of teachers and the autonomous learning ability of students. Not restricted by the time and space, network learning mode better realizes resource sharing, and provides a platform for communication and collaboration for learners. Thus, learners can accept more comprehensive information and guidance provided by teachers, and cope with other members of the community, so as to achieve common progress. Learning community promotes interpersonal contact of equality, interaction, and conversation in the learning process. And Network environment provides technical support for its theoretical pursuit. English network learning mode based on learning community can radically change the traditional construction of classroom teaching and the nature of education, and eventually achieve the ultimate goal of improving students’ autonomous and collaborative learning ability.
