Abstract:The acquisition of English vocabulary is the most basic means to improve their English. If there is no certain accumulation of vocabulary, the students cannot achieve the qualitative leap in improving the standard of English. However, due to the large number of English language vocabulary, vocabulary learning, memory and application has become one of the main obstacles for the students to learn and use English. Semantic field theory is proposed by Trier and other scholars. They define the semantic field theory. The theory looks the vocabulary of a language as a combined system to learn the words. In this thesis, the theory is applied to the English vocabulary learning. First, this thesis puts forward the concepts, features, and the type of semantic field theory through researching it at home and abroad. Second, explore effective strategies for learning vocabulary through in-depth study of the semantic field, which is the establishment of various forms of semantic field to the English vocabulary learning. This can enhance the efficiency of the English vocabulary learning, expand the quantity of the vocabulary, and then build up English vocabulary system for foreign language learners
