Abstract:Language is the main means for people to communicate with others. With the development of society, English has become an indispensable international language. In China, there is a great mass fervor for English. In teaching field, English has become an important subject. For primary school students, English teaching focuses on developing the interest of students in English learning. What kind of teaching method which can motivate the initiative and arouse the interest of students is a key point of foreign language research, and it is the origin of this paper as well. In recent years, role play, as a kind of interesting teaching method, is considered to be an effective way to cultivate students' interest in learning English, so it is more and more widely applied to the primary school English classroom, and it makes a great effect. However, it also exposes some problems, and makes a big influence on teaching. In this paper, the main research question is how to solve these problems and effectively implement role playing which is suitable for the primary English classroom. After learning about the current research on role play, we discuss the significance of role play in primary English teaching based on theories and practice. Using case study, this paper summarizes the problems in the implementation of role play and analyzes the reasons detailedly. Finally we propose suggested solutions for effective implementation of role play.
