Abstract

The new English curriculum standard explicitly points out that one of the tasks of English course in elementary education stage is to arouse and cultivate students' interest in learning English. Elementary school period is the key to cultivate students' interest in learning. Once they take interest in English and maintain it, students can learn English well. However, the current situation of primary school students' interest in English learning is worrying. It is very common for pupils to lack sustained enthusiasm in learning English.

The thesis lists the main problems in pupils’ interest in learning English and analyzes the possible reasons. Aiming at the problems, the author proposes some corresponding countermeasures to cultivate and maintain students’ interest in learning English in primary schools.
