Abstract
Problem-based Learning, hereinafter referred to as PBL, is a new learning method based on the theory of constructivism. It is a kind of student-centered instructional approach and students are inspired to gain deeper knowledge by their individual work or collaboration using the learning resource. In order to find whether PBL can apply to college English classroom or not, this paper integrates domestic and foreign references, draws lessons from experience of other college English teaching and combines the characteristics of college English with current situation of college English reading.
PBL can not only improve student’s reading ability, cultural quality, autonomous learning ability, but also theirs’ innovation and practical ability. PBL increases communications and interactions between teachers and students and helps teachers to understand the students' personality and learning ability, which is conducive to teaching and learning.
