Abstract
English reading, as one of the four basic skills, plays an important role in English learning. In China, the traditional English reading class is heavily dependent on teachers’ lecture, and test-oriented. English reading class concentrated on grammar and vocabulary teaching. Cooperative Learning, as a breakthrough and supplement to traditional English reading teaching, is quite practical. This thesis first expounds the theory of Cooperative Learning and English reading teaching, on the basis of which, a case study is carried out to demonstrate whether Cooperative Learning can contribute to English reading teaching, especially in three aspects. At last, according to the comparison between the grades before the experiment and those after the experiment, as well as the analysis of the results of the questionnaire, a conclusion can be drawn.
