Abstract
Although most students start to learn English from primary school or kindergarten, their learning focuses more on listening and speaking. As they step into junior high school, they have a heavier task of English learning, which means they need to memorize more than before. Lots of teachers require their students to recite the articles or paragraphs in textbook, not giving the effective way to guide students who, then, can just memorize mechanically. So recitation seems to be a burden to students. But, is this right? The researches on the recitation’s functions on foreign languages learning made by the predecessors show that an effective strategy of recitation contributes much to a foreign language learning. In fact, as a language input, recitation hasn’t been made good use of. During my internship in Yifu Junior High School of Deyang, I made a brief diagnose about students’ English learning in Grade Seven from their attitudes, cognition and practical application, finding that the memorizing problems were not only come from the students themselves, but also the lecture content and teacher’s instruction. Aiming at the respondents, the teacher helped me to design a new teaching style of text within an improved strategy using the textbook of Grade Seven. After the new designed class, we discussed the results which implied that improved strategies can help students to memorize better. But there are still some deficiencies to improve.
