Abstract:This study is an attempt to discover the problems existing in junior students’ English writing and infer the possible causes that lead to a difficult situation for students to write in English. The data was gathered via 117 pieces of questionnaires and informal observation in No. 6 Middle School of Baoshan City. And it is analyzed from four aspects: firstly, students’ general view of English writing; secondly, the influence of Chinese upon English writing; thirdly, the practice and process of students’ writing; finally, students’ own opinion of factors affecting their writing.
The results show that there are mainly four problems in their writings. Students do not have a proper attitude towards English writing which makes them lack interest in writing. Also, they are puzzled with the differences between Chinese and English as well as poor in necessary English knowledge and writing skills. Moreover, they do not perform proper writing practice or writing process.

中文摘要:写作是语言的一种输出形式,在英语教学中起着很重要的作用,因为学生可以通过写作的方式来表达自己的思想。但是,对大多数中国学生而言写作是一件很困难的事。
本文旨在发现初中学生英语写作中存在的问题并研究造成学生英语写作困难的原因,以帮助老师以及学生更好地把握英语写作。本文所涉及的研究数据主要包括117份由保山市第六中学学生完成的问卷调查以及作者的观察。文章数据分析主要从四个方面入手:学生对英语写作的看法,写作过程以及写作实践,学生母语对英语写作的影响和学生对造成英语写作困难的自我解析。研究结果表明在保山市第六中学学生英语写作中主要存在三方面问题:学生缺乏英语写作兴趣,对于英汉差异以及跨文化交际意识的认识不足,缺乏关于英语写作过程的必要了解和练习,英语水平不足以及缺乏英语写作技巧。
