Abstract:This dissertation mainly discusses the existing problems in current teaching and learning in English reading class. It highly emphasizes that teaching of reading based on the constructivist theory is a feasible way to solve these problems. In the study, based on the constructivist theory, some teaching activities for reading, which are suitable for the local environment in senior high middle school, have been designed and applied to practice English reading instruction. In order to testify the effectiveness of these activities, we have conducted an experiment for a whole term in a senior high middle school. The results of the experiment shows that it is workable, feasible and efficient to apply the teaching activities for reading, designed within the framework of the constructivist theory, to the English reading instruction of the students of senior high middle school. In other words, these teaching activities can help to improve the students’reading proficiency, to promote their employment of reading strategies and their attitudes towards reading instruction.

中文摘要:本文主要讨论了当前教学和英语阅读课学习中存在的问题。它重点强调以建构理论为基础的英语阅读教学是一种可以解决这些问题的可行方法。在研究建构主义理论的基础上,一些适合本地环境的英语阅读教学活动,已设计并应用到英语阅读教学实践当中。为了证明这些活动的有效性,我们已经在高中进行了全期实验。实验结果表明,以建构理论框架设计的阅读教学活动,是可行的和有效的。换言之,这些教学活动可以有助于提高学习者的阅读能力,以促进他们的阅读策略和他们对阅读教学的态度。
