ABSTRACT
In the traditional teaching model, the realization of educational aims depends entirely on the teachers in the class. Hence, the construction of ability of the students with the knowledge system relies heavily on the level of classroom discourse, professional knowledge and teaching skills of the teachers. The flipped classroom model is the subversion of the traditional classroom model. The teacher uploads the teaching video online for students to watch before class at home. In class, students finish the exercises and the teacher guides students to solve their problems. The flipped classroom model presents the interaction between the teacher and students in different forms. At present, the researches on the flipped classroom model are still at the initial stage.
Based on one demonstration class of flipped class model, this paper tries to analyze the changes of the roles of the teacher and students, the application on the students’ independent exploring ability, the interaction between the teacher and the students and the classroom activities. It aims to analyze the feasibility of the flipped classroom model in middle school English teaching in China. The research finds out the following features of the flipped classroom:
1.In the flipped classroom model, the teaching processes are deeply changed. Students study before class and discuss in class.
2. Teachers change from leaders into guiders. Students change from passive learners into initiative researchers. The dominant position of students is improved.
3. In the flipped classroom, the classroom activities are not limited to transferring knowledge. The form of classroom activities is rich and colorful. Students tend to explore on their own and work in groups.
4. The traditional classroom model adopts the paper evaluation, while the way of evaluation of the flipped classroom is multi-angle and multi-model.
Based on the analysis, we can find out that the flipped classroom model has great significance to the reformation of the traditional classroom model. It changes the traditional educational idea, transforms the roles of teachers and students and improves students’ independent exploring ability. While the researches on the flipped classroom model are on the exploring stage, the flipped classroom model is an inexorable trend to the reformation of the traditional classroom model.
