ABSTRACT
Address forms are very common and very necessary in classroom teaching, but the function of it is paid less attention to than other parts of class discourse because of its commonness. This paper will discuss the category of address forms in English class of middle schools according to the observations and various literature reviews. It then explores the importance of different kinds of address forms from the perspectives of pragmatics and cognitive development. In the end this paper will present the functions of the address forms given by the teachers to their students and try to make some suggestions on effective use of address terms.
