Abstract:Reading strategies are important to EFL learners’ reading comprehension and the study of reading strategies is one of the hot issues in the foreign language teaching and research. This paper employs questionnaire and interview to study the reading strategies used by Junior High School EFL learners in an attempt to give implications to the teaching of reading in Junior High Schools. The research shows that the reading strategies Junior High School students always used are skimming and scanning; vocabulary and prior knowledge are important factors which influenced students’ reading; learning experience and teachers’ guidance are other factors affected students’ employment of reading strategies. English teachers in Junior High School should pay attention to the accumulation of students’ vocabulary and background knowledge about important topics, and do effective guidance of reading strategies.
