Abstract
Nowadays, oral communicative competence is gravely ignored in English teaching, though the new curriculum standard clearly puts forward the requirements for oral ability. Overemphasis on exam-oriented education generally makes students’ oral communicative competence poor in junior middle school. Therefore, besides the accumulation of professional knowledge, the cultivation of students’ oral communicative competence should also be paid attention to in junior middle school English teaching. The essay aims to analyze the negative factors of cultivating students’ oral communicative competence and study the methods to train students’ oral communicative competence. To a great degree, it can help them get rid of the phenomenon, dumb English, and improve their oral communicative competence. Moreover, a case of classroom teaching is analyzed in the paper, exploring its pros and cons to develop students’ oral communicative competence.
