Abstract

 

Teachers should use situational teaching method flexibly in Junior middle school English grammar teaching by creating a real language environment or simulated environment to make students feel more immersed in the context of language materials, and to arouse students’ desire to express their ideas in English freely. There are some rationales for the situational teaching method in grammar teaching, such theories as the language acquisition theory, the constructivist learning theory and the mood psychology theory. Furthermore, when we create a proper situation, we should put forward the principle of being practical, being explicit and communicative. Moreover, the situation and atmosphere should also be active and creative. Generally speaking, there are four-step methods to carry out situational teaching method. First, we should create appropriate situation, such as, cooperation situation, problem situation, visual context and aesthetic situation to enable students to engage in a variety of sensory activities. Then, the processes of demonstrating situation, analyzing situation and extending situation are equally important.
