Abstract
This thesis is a study on the English-Chinese translation of film subtitling from the perspective of intercultural communication. By analyzing the functions and linguistic features of film subtitling, we learn that film subtitling fulfills its communicative purpose through various linguistic devices and abundant cultural connotations. Language is the carrier of culture. Film subtitling translation should attach great importance to the social functions while carrying on linguistic communication. Through probing into the cultural differences, we put Skopos Theory into consideration to analyze film subtitling mistranslation. So we can get the translated texts successful in achieving the main purpose of film subtitling.
