Abstract
This thesis is a study on the heroine’s spiritual world in Gone with the Wind from the perspectives of homeland consciousness, tomorrow consciousness and rebellion consciousness. Homeland consciousness is an important theme throughout the whole novel; this paper analyzes the emotional changes of Scarlett before and after the war with efforts she makes for homeland for a further study of the great influence homeland consciousness brings to her. Tomorrow consciousness is another source of inspiration to her, which endows her with endless motivation and hope to overcome hardships. What’s more, Scarlett dares to challenge traditional gender role and moral rules. It’s her rebellion consciousness that makes her stand out from the male-dominated world and survive toughly in troubled times.
