Abstract
Sense and Sensibility is Jane Austin’s representative novel. She depicted the inherent characteristic of the time when she lived with delicate observation and flexible writing methods. Austin reflected the darkness of time to a certain extent by analyzing the female’s marriage and their inner world. By analyzing Austen’s first novel sense and sensibility, the paper discovers Victorian women’s social consciousness. Through Elinor and Marian’s different love and marriage experiences, the book shows the Victorian women’s consciousness of self-independence and the pursuit of gender equality.
