Abstract
English is the most widely used language in the world. It absorbs the vocabulary of various languages during the process of constantly updating and creating, which has become one of the most abundant vocabulary language worldwide. According to the statistics, only 61.7% of the most frequently used 1000 vocabularies in modern English from the old English And the alien words accounts for 38.3%. From the perspective of Norman conquest, this paper analyzes the relationship between French and English and explores the effect of the French on the English vocabulary during the Norman conquest. Finally, the thesis concludes that the Norman French has exerted considerable influence on the religion, legislation, literature and social life in English.
