Abstract
Mark Twain is called as “Lincoln in the history of American literature” by Howells, who is Mark Twain’s best friend. Mark Twain is one of the greatest critical realist writers, humorists and satirists in the United States in the late 19th century. He occupies a very dominant, unique and important position in the history of American literature. His novels manifest the humorous writing style. Humor is a typical kind of literary phenomenon featured by characters of the United States. Humor has given people a sense of joy. In the form of comedy writers reveal the absurdity and dark side of the society bureaucratic autocracy and satire fatuity by means of humor, which led readers in deep thought after the anguished laughter. This article will analyze the use of humor in Mark Twain’s novels and his attitude to current society and humanity with the help of the Adventure of Tom Sawyer.
