Abstract:The feminist movement is rooted in Western progressiveism, especially in the 19th century. In the past hundreds of years, both in China and the United Kingdom, women have been required to be three-and-four virtues and have been in a dominant position. In the development of English literature, there are also articles that praise women's independence or express women's deep sympathy, which also reflects the phenomenon of unequal status of women from the side.
The British drama Downton Abbey from the Titanic shipwreck incident to the First World War, the entire process of historical changes, from these changes in the concept of characters can be seen that the British social feminism quietly rose. Once the Downton Abbey was aired, it was sought after by fans at home and abroad. Downton Abbey was so popular, in large part because the feminist ideas of the play coincided with the times. Rebellion against class, the pursuit of free and equal love, participation in political elections and economic independence all embody the feminist ideology. This paper interprets Downton Abbey from a feminist perspective. Under the background analysis of Downton Abbey, explores the career outlook of women in Downton Abbey, understands the development of feminism, and understands the transformation of women's social status. And briefly analyze the impact on women in today's society.
