Abstract:The living conditions and status of women in society has always been a topic of concern since time immemorial. It has important research significance in different periods. The purpose of this paper is to reappearance the social living conditions of American women in the 19th century through the decipherment of The Storm. This thesis starts with the novel The Storm, analyzes the living conditions and female status of American women in the 19th century and the reasons for the formation, so that readers can have an understanding of the living conditions of American women in the 19th century and more correctly understand the status and role of contemporary women in society. Finally, the author compares the living conditions of American women in the 19th century with the living conditions of contemporary women. On this basis, conclusions can be drawn that modern society can provide women with a reference to pursue their own roles, and thus propose some suggestions that modern women must have a happy love and marriage life and have their own independent work.
