Abstract
Tennessee Williams is a famous playwright of the United States in the 20th century. He won the highest award ---the theater New York drama Award and the Pulitzer Prize.
In his book A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams successfully shaped a southern Lady who eventually came to a mental breakdown by the torture of social discrimination, patriarchal culture and the evil. As for the conflict between Stanley and Blanche, i.e. the victor Stanley vs. insane Blanche, this thesis, based on the standpoint of liberal feminist in light of feminism correlation theories, works on words power, economic status and family status to make a research on the gender differences, persecution of female by patriarchal system and gender inequalities. Through the insane heroine and her tragedy destiny, it elaborates free feminism idea, and draws out the theme of gender equality and harmony. Blanche may control her own destiny and future only when she is economically and ideologically independent.
