Abstract
As the Translator’s Subjectivity influences the whole translation process and outcomes, its role begins to stand out gradually. Translators should attach more significance to the Translator’s Subjectivity, especially in translating Chinese essays which have diverse forms and profound meanings. Among few English translations of Chinese essays, Zhang Peiji’s translation embodies the Translator’s Subjectivity in his translation principles and strategies. In order to confirm the importance of the Translator’s Subjectivity in the translation of Chinese essays, this thesis mainly studies Zhang’s English translations of Chinese essays from the perspective of Translator’s Subjectivity, concentrating on his selection of resource texts before translating, application of translation principles and strategies, and the handling of special words in translation process. Then it concludes that due to the fully play of the Translator’s Subjectivity, Zhang Peiji’s English translations enjoy a high reputation and set a good example for future translation practice and research.
