Abstract
In the novel “ Uncle Tom's Cabin”, Harriet Beecher Stowe described the sin and immoral slavery with exquisite brushworks, and to some extent intensified the local conflicts which led to the American Civil War. Eliza is a beautiful mixed-blood slave with a quarter of the black, in order to avoid her son being sold, she stepped on the road of fleeing with her son resolutely. Scholars have been focusing on the darkness of the slavery and the struggles with the unfair fate but neglected the importance of female image in historical development. Mrs. Stowe's female characters, though not as strong as men's physical advantage, has great superiority in the moral level, in the struggle against slavery and the struggle against unfair society they have played a more powerful role than male. Through the analysis of Eliza, we not only can see women led by her played an important role in the anti-slavery but also realize the glory of the maternal love deeply. So, the paper is mainly analyze Eliza female image by focused on the important role in historical progress of female and maternal love.
