中国人良好的秉性在中国有着几千年的历史，并得到历史验证，是维护社会稳定的重要精神力量。真正的中国人的精神是永葆青春的精神，是民族不朽的精神。真正的中国人所具有的绅士性、同情心、质朴、对父母的孝顺、对社会道德的遵从、无私精神无论是对当下的中国还是全球社会都有着重要意义。传统中国人的精神在现代背景下得到了继承和发展，帮助当今中国解决许多社会问题，如社会道德问题，民主发展的问题，食品安全问题等等。中国人的精神蕴藏在其国家信仰------儒教中,所以中国人的精神很大程度上来自儒家文化。对儒家文化的传播和发展有利于中国社会稳定、经济繁荣，提升国际形象。本文从研究辜鸿铭所著《中国人的精神》出发，通过对当前中国的观察，发掘中国人精神的意义。
The merits of the Chinese people lasts for several thousand years and has proved to be the important spiritual power of maintaining social stability. The real spirit of the Chinese people is a spirit of perpetual youth and national immortality. The real Chinese people has the gentleness, sympathy, filial piety to parents, obedience of moral laws, the spirit of selflessness, which shows great significance to today’s China and international world. The spirit of the traditional Chinese people has been inherited and developed in modern China, and help save many social issues, such as the issue of immorality, democracy development, food safety. The Spirit of the Chinese people is contained in its state religion------Confucianism, to a great extend, the spirit of the Chinese people is originated from Confucianism. The spread and development of Confucianism is beneficial to the stability and economic prosperity of China, improving the image of China in international world, promoting the international political status of China and developing economy with foreign countries. This thesis stands on the view of modern China, analyzing the current situation, to dig up the significance of the spirit of the Chinese people for present.
KU Hung-Ming, a famous professor at the end of Qing dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, was a specialist in English. In his early years, he accepted strict training of English literary in England. And after he returned the Republic of China, he wrote a book named the Spirit of the Chinese People, which reflected his deep love of Chinese traditional culture and made a great influence in western countries. The Spirit of the Chinese People was published in Beijing in 1915, and it was translated into German. The book attracted much attention in Germany, where the World War I was taking place. KU Hung-Ming pointed out that it was the worship of the mob in Britain and the worship of the might in Germany aroused the war.He criticized western culture and demonstrated that Chinese culture was essential for saving the whole world from war with his enthusiasm of idealism. At the time period, European people was faced with the World War I. They suffered from the war and was eager to peace. They saw the hope in the Spirit of the Chinese People and they admired the peaceful life in oriental world. In this book, KU Hung-Ming described a stable social life in China and the Religion of good citizenship, all these like an Utopia for European people,compared with their current situation,struggling in chaos caused by the World War I. He encouraged European people to follow the Confucianism which advocated that governing a state with Benevolence, Propriety and Righteous can help keep a stable political situation. This thesis is aimed at exploring the spirit of the real Chinese people in this book and analyzing the significant values of these virtues for today’s China, how it works and what change it will make for China.

The spirit of the Chinese people maintains the stability of society. Some characteristics of the Chinese people in the research of KU Hung-Ming may not be rational in modern China. However, like Oscar Wilde says, “it is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.” It is not proper to judge what kind of the Chinese people are good and what kind of them are bad. The spirit of people at different historical background is reasonably different. So we should look at the spirit that is meaningful for present day. And in today’s China, some spirit of the Chinese people still can help our country keep its stability. Moreover, On the foundation of the good values of Confucianism, China and foreign countries communicate friendly and work together to improve the level of common development. In harmonious atmosphere, the whole world economy develops in a peaceful environment. |
