Abstract: In response to the phenomenon that a small part of English majors in Nanjing Xiaozhuang University still can not pass TEM-4 even after 3 or 4 years of English study, this paper analyzes the relationships between motivations and students’ English achievements. It takes senior English majors in Nanjing Xiaozhuang University as the research objects, and by means of questionnaire and based on the classification of extrinsic motivation and intrinsic motivation, this paper puts forward the corresponding strategies and methods to help English major students to improve their English acquisition ability. The results show that most students involved in this survey have more extrinsic motivation but less intrinsic motivation. As for the relationships between these two motivations and English achievements, on the one hand, the extrinsic motivation has more impact on English achievements than the intrinsic motivation; on the other hand, the intrinsic motivation also has its incomparable advantages, students with better grades have more intrinsic motivation.
