Abstract
English learning mainly includes listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating several parts, and reading plays an extremely important role. Reading can provide language input for English learners and focus on various English tests. Therefore, as an English major student, improving reading ability is an important way to improve the level of English. However, many students have different kinds of problems. For example, students do not show great interest in reading; students don’t have appropriate reading method. So this paper mainly introduces the definition of the learning strategies, main problems in English reading course and the methods of cultivating English reading strategies. Learning strategies are the complex programs that learners have developed in order to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of learning, purposefully and consciously.
This paper will study and discuss the learning strategies in reading courses for English majors. The research methods mainly include literature method and survey method. It aims to know the students’ reading method, habits and reading materials and show some effective strategies of cultivating students’ English reading. Such as: Cultivate students’ interest in reading, enhance students’ understanding of English culture and increase the students’ quantity of vocabulary and train some reading skills.
