Abstract
It is necessary for language learners to study vocabularies which can greatly improve the learning efficiency. Language learners must put emphasis on vocabulary study. This research will investigate the learning situation of language learners through questionnaires. The questionnaire is conducted in Jiangsu Second Normal University, with English majors as its research subjects. There are three main goals of the research: 1. Contemporary vocabulary learning strategies and the common strategies used by English majors. 2. The results of the common vocabulary learning strategies. 3. The measures of improving English majors’ vocabulary learning.
The results indicate that the overall level of English majors’ vocabulary learning is not high. The level of cognitive strategies, metacognitive strategies and memory strategies are extremely low. For one part, they do pay attention to vocabulary learning. For another, their learning is inefficient. Based on the results, we offer some strategies and suggestions to enhance the students’ vocabulary learning through developing their learning strategies and improving their autonomous learning ability.
