Abstract:In order to have a general understanding of how English majors use the resources of Internet when learning English autonomously outside class, what learning strategies they adopt, what contents they do focus on, and what the entirely relationship they have with English learning, I made the research. With the rapid development of computers and Internet technologies, English learners have been provided abundant resources and vast platform. Therefore, it’s of great importance to cultivate students’ ability of learning English autonomously. Thus, our concern of web-based English learning autonomously outside class means a lot.

The prime task of English majors since they enter the universities is to have a good command of this language. With learning the specific and relevant knowledge in this field, students’ sensitiveness of cultural differences can be improved and ability of communication in English can be developed. Language learning needs a sound environment, therefore, the birth of Internet make it authentic. Its vivid and direct features present English learners convenient ways of obtaining information and opportunities of practice, which mobilize students’ activeness in learning English, and conquer the limits of traditional mode in teaching English. Wed-based learning not only emphasizes a lot on autonomous learning; however, but also makes the great significance of the development in students’ independence, initiative and spirit of exploration.
