ABSTRACT:Among the four skills in English learning, writing is usually considered to be the last acquired skill because it is the most difficult. Therefore, Chinese students’ English writing has been an issue that attracts the attention of many researchers at home and abroad. For Chinese learners of English, an obvious difficulty is to handle cohesion and coherence in their writing. This study is designed to investigate the current status quo of cohesion and coherence in students’ English writing. The samples are taken from the junior English majors of School of Foreign Languages in Yuxi Normal University. 20 junior English majors’ essays are analyzed on two main issues. One is the varieties of cohesion and coherence problems existing in their essays, the other is the causes for the problems. Data discussed in this paper were collected from questionnaires, interview questions and students’ essay samples.

摘要:在英语学习的四项技能中,写作,因其最难,通常被作为是最后习得的一项技能。因此,中国学生的英文写作一直以来都为许多中外英语教师所关注。对中国学生而言,一个明显的困难就是克服英语作文中的衔接和连贯问题。此研究是针对玉溪师范学院外语学院英语专业三年级学生写作中衔接与连贯的调查。在这篇论文中将主要从以下两个方面研究20名英语专业三年级学生的英语作文:一个是学生作文中衔接与连贯的现状,另一个是其形成的原因。文中涉及到的数据是通过问卷调查,采访和分析学生作文来收集的。
