《黑暗中的呼唤》由美国作家亚当·德弗雷尔所写。本书主要讲诉了讲述了15岁的小女孩史黛西在母亲过世后父亲一味沉浸在悲伤中而无所作为的情况下不得不早早地出来兼职打工照顾自己以及父亲的故事。
翻译所选中的三个部分，主要讲诉史黛西和父亲之间生活，以及在音像店打工发现秘密之后。她和朋友之间对此发生分歧，两人冷战，从而也让她迟疑该怎么做。
第一部分主要讲了史黛西和父亲的日常生活。在母亲去世之后，父亲一蹶不振，她要照顾父亲，每天给父亲做饭，细致地描述了怎样做千层饼和与父亲吃饭的过程与对话，体现了父女之间浓厚的感情，彼此之间相依为命的感觉。
第二部分主要讲了史黛西发现了音像店的秘密告诉她的好朋友托普斯，托普斯想要找凯特琳问清楚毕竟她在那工作过。但是凯特琳并没有当面回答他们任何问题。却在单独遇到史黛西时给了史黛西一个忠告。
第三部分主要讲诉了在知道音像店秘密之后，托普斯就劝史黛西不要做这份工作了，但史黛西因为家庭经济原因不想放弃，两人因此产生了矛盾，小吵一架之后陷入了冷战，史黛西内心也是十分纠结于要不要继续做这份工作。
INTRODUCTION
A Call from the Dark is written by American writer Adam Deverell. The book mainly tells the story of a little 15-year-old girl, Stacey. Stacey’s father is blindly immersed in the sadness after her mother’s death so that she has to do a part-time job early and take care of her father.
The selected three parts are mainly about the life between Stacey and her father, the secret of the Video Saloon that she worked in and the quarrel between Stacey and her friend. After they get into the cold war, she begins to hesitate how to do it.
The first part mainly recounts Stacey and her father’s daily life. After her mother dies, her father is dispirited. She has to take care of her father and cook dinner for her father every day. It describes how to make beef lasagna and their dialogues between her father and her in detail. It reflects the strong feelings between father and daughter and the feeling of accompanying each other.
The second part mainly narrates that Stacey discovers the secret of the Video Saloon and tells his best friend Topps the secret. Topps wants her to ask Caitlin about the secret because she once worked there. Caitlin, however, does not answer any questions. But in a occasional meeting, Caitlin gives Stacey an advice.
Finally the third part is mainly about the secret of the Video Saloon. Topps would persuade Stacey not to do this job, but Stacey doesn’t want to give up because of money. Therefore the two people have a little quarrel and get into a cold war. Stacey hesitates whether to continue to do the job.
