《我逝去的青春》这本书是散文集。作者梅根·多姆是美国著名的作者，专栏作家，散文家和记者。在2001年首次出版。梅根·多姆在书里讲述在美国完成梦想的种种经历，这也引起了青少年的共鸣。这是我选此书翻译的一个原因。还有一个原因是两个章节都是散文，翻译的难度也适中，稍微偏上。
第三章《我逝去的青春》讲述作者在纽约城渴望成为作家的故事，这个经历也非常迂回曲折。不幸的是，她欠了很多钱，接近破产，她必须尽量去偿还贷款。甚至到最后她付不起房租，必须找新的住处。相比房租价格，她考虑搬去林肯。
第四章是《地毯是芒格》，描述作者想要租一个带有全室地毯的房子，她认为地毯很重要。她还把地毯和精英、阶级等联系在一起，甚至廉价的地毯都能提高租金。
INTRODUCTION
The book My Misspent Youth is an essays collection. The author Megan Daum is a famous American author, columnist, essayist and journalist in America, and it was first published in 2001. In this book, Megan Daum expresses her feelings of being young by telling her stories about realizing her dream in America, which has resonance for today’s teenagers. This is one of the two reasons I choose the book to do my translation practice. The other reason is that both of the two chapters are essays, and the difficulty in translation is moderate and a little above.
Chapter Three is My Misspent Youth, which tells that the author is eager to be a writer in New York City with ups and downs. Unfortunately, she owes a large amount of debt in her life and she should attempt to pay them. Even at last she can’t pay her rent any longer and must find a new rented house to live in. Considering the rent, she thinks about moving to Lincoln.
Chapter Four is Carpet is Mungers, describing that the author wants to rent a house with a wall-to-wall carpet and consider it very important. She connects the wall-to-wall carpet with the elite and the class. Even the inexpensive wall-to-wall carpet can increase the rent.
