ABSTRACT
Notre-Dame de Paris is regarded as the first of Hugo’s romantic novel, which narrated a story of the 15th century in a strange and contrastive way. In this thesis, the author will make a contrastive analysis between two characters in Notre-Dame de Paris in Quasimodo and Claude. This paper will contrast Quasimodo’s beauty and Claude’s ugliness in four aspects: their appearances, their actions, their characteristics and their views on value so as to enable readers to recognize these two characters better and have a deeper understanding of the novel, thus helping people to know what the true value is and what real beauty is.
