Abstract
Although the novel Robinson Crusoe written by Daniel Defoe and the film Cast Away starred by Tom Cruise are set in different times with different forms of expression, both of their spiritual contents influence the human society in a great degree. The spirits and themes reflected in the book and the film have great values to our lives and the entire society. Through the comparison and analysis of the main characters and themes of these two works, this thesis mainly studies the influence of Robinson’s spirit on the society and the deep meaning of Cast Away.
