Abstract:With the development of cross-cultural communication, the importance of English foul language translating into Chinese is gradually revealed. It is a tough question to convey the authentic meaning of foul language accurately and smoothly in translating Chinese into English and vice versa. Foul language, belonging to a vulgar language, is generally used in informal situations or in talks among friends, colleagues, acquaintances and family members, and widely used in literary works, films and TV series as well. Chinese and English foul language are critical parts in language system, especially used in literature and social media for adding more interest and diversity. This thesis,taking the case of foul slang, mainly explores the role of Chinese-English foul language in cross-culture and language evolution, discusses differences and similarities of Chinese-English foul language, along with translation principles, and the social meaning. It is argued that the translation of Chinese-English foul language is affected greatly by culture and social development. Conversely, foul language makes great contribution to language progress, and enrich the diversity of language in both Chinese and English.
