Abstract: This paper regards the film The Joy Luck Club as a chief source to find out differences in family values between China and the United States. Specific examples are listed to make a comparison between Chinese and American family values in four aspects. Then, the paper conducts an in-depth analysis of factors contributing to these differences, such as history, religious belief and cultural background. At last, a conclusion is reached to help people set up correct family values and conduct better cross-cultural communications.
