Abstract
This thesis is a study on comparative analysis of English and Chinese idioms from the from the perspective of intercultural communication. From analyzing the definition and characteristics of idioms and their backgrounds respectively, we learn their similarities and differences and a wide range of reasons accounting for them. Language is the carrier of culture, and the use of idioms plays an irreplaceable role in closing the relationship between China and other English-speaking countries, especially in this era where intercultural exchange and communication have been increasingly frequent. Through probing into the differences of English and Chinese idioms, we are with the aspiration that people will have a deeper knowledge of both and make good use of them to promote closer relationship.
