Abstract:With the fast development of globalization, cross-cultural communication is becoming more and more important. As a heritage of the oldest civilization, the distinguished Chinese culture, especially the Chinese folk-customs are drawing more and more attentions. Chinese folk-custom lexes are the specific and vivid reflections of Chinese history and convey the unique characteristics of Chinese and Chinese culture. However, due to their rich cultural connotations, it is hard for foreigners to grasp the essence of them. Based on the achievements of previous studies on Cross-cultural Communication, the paper explores some common ways used in translation like transliteration, literal translation and free Translation. At the same time, a new translation method is proposed, namely, transliterating the lexes into words with the English lexical structure. This method is highly stemmed from the translation methods of Japanese folk-custom lexes and aims at making the translation of Chinese folk custom lexes more suitable for the foreigners to understand and maximizing the function of C-E translation of Chinese folk-custom lexes so as to carry forward traditional Chinese culture.
