Abstract:In recent years, with the increase of the international communication and the popularity of the English language teaching, an increasing number of Chinese can talk to foreigners in their fluent English face to face. However, things will become difficult and embarrassed once foreigners use the idioms, religious idioms in particular.
The thesis attempts to explore how the Christianity influence the English idioms by introducing idioms related to religious customs and church services as well as our daily life. We hope that Chinese can communicate with Westerners more efficiently and lessen our misunderstanding on the basis of knowing the knowledge of western culture especially the Christian culture.
