Abstract
Mark Twain was an eminent representative of American critical realism literature, one of whose representative works is “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. Tom is the image of a child who has a lot of excellent qualities and rebels against reality here, created by Mark Twain. It shows a positive attitude and spirit that Tom pursues freedom and independence.The naughty boy’s image has been loved by millions of children and adults around the world since its birth. The paper explains the birth of the works and the reasons for its success from the social background and literary background and highlights the nature of Tom Sawyer and its importance. It also criticizes the social stereotypes by comparing Tom’s excellent characteristics with the hypocrisy of the adult world and it finally analyzes the practical significance the image of Tom that Tom makes efforts to get rid of the shackles to seek an ideal life.
