Abstract
Vanity Fair is considered as one of masterpieces in William Makepeace Thackeray’s career. He created two radically different female protagonists in this novel. They are Amelia and Rebecca, who represent different classes of the British society in the early nineteenth century. According to the comparative studies on their different attitudes towards love, money and values, it will criticize the darkness of society and money-oriented values, as well as Thackeray’s complex feelings for these two heroines to some extent.
