Abstract: With the acceleration of globalization, the communication between China and the outside world is more and more frequent. During the process of communication, translation is an essential part. Due to China’s unique national conditions and culture, great amount of words with Chinese characteristics appear inevitably in foreign affairs, and those kind of words have become a major difficulty in C-E translation. This study explains skopos theory and words with Chinese characteristic successively, and then explores principles and strategies based on the case study of Chinese leaders’ speeches under the guidance of skopos theory to help translators handle C-E translations more easily. As a result, proper translation will act as the bridge in cross-cultural communication so as to promote friendly exchanges between China and the rest of the world.
