Abstract: The Black Cat is a classic horror novel written by Edgar Allan Poe. The novel is a typical novel of death theme which is surrounded by the smell of death. This paper will focus on death in The Black Cat, analyze the expression of death theme in this novel and discuss the reasons for Poe’s choice of death as the theme for his works so as to get more profound understanding of the value of this novel and arouse people’s reflection on human nature.
