Abstract:For a long time, Satan is being considered as an ugly and bad image in Bible and is the highest negative symbol of all ugly forces. Until Milton describes the unusual image of Satan at the beginning of Paradise Lost with sharp language to expose the hegemony of god, Satan becomes the ironic rebellious hero trying to overturn traditional culture concept which god is dominator. However, under the background of religious culture, Satan always can’t get rid of the evil image which gains much attention result in the changeable image of Satan. The complex images inspire people to interpret it from different aspects whether he is the hero or not. Milton represents Satan’s plot against man and Christ’s resolution to save him as heroic enterprises. He is best portrayed as the tragic anti-hero of Paradise Lost or, at the very least, a main character who possesses the stature and attributes which enable him to achieve tragic status. But the role of Satan reflects the condition of bourgeois revolution and the recognition of the author which doubt and challenge the eternity and rationality of tradition. This of course rejects by the feudalism and arouses the conflict between both sides. To focus on this point, this paper analyzes the tragic image from Satan heroic rebel behavior to the demise of the hero.

摘要:长时期以来,在《圣经》中,撒旦都是被人认为是一个不好的、会带来厄运的形象,是具有否定性的一切丑恶势力的最高象征。然而,在弥尔顿《失乐园》中开篇写出了撒旦气度不凡的形象,用锐利的语言去揭露上帝的霸权,撒旦以反讽的形式成为了叛逆的英雄,试图颠覆以上帝为核心范畴的传统文化概念。然而,在宗教文化的背景下,撒旦的邪恶形象总是不能摆脱,以至撒旦多变的形象成了人们一直关注的焦点,其形象的复杂性激发人们从不同的角度去阐释他是英雄还是恶魔。作者认为弥尔顿在安排撒旦对抗人与基督的情节安排上为他保存了一个英勇的形象。但是由于撒旦的反抗映射了当时资产阶级革命的现状以及诗人对于革命的认识,不仅怀疑旧的传统制度的永恒性和合理性的态度,而且是进而向它挑战,这当然是旧传统旧制度的代表者所绝不容许的,冲突必然不可避免,而使撒旦在失乐园的地位和属性只能成为一个悲剧性英雄的形象。针对这点,作者从英雄的崛起到英雄的没落来分析撒旦的悲剧性英雄形象。
