Abstract:As a brilliant and influential translation theorist and practitioner, Eugene A. Nida proposes the famous concept of functional equivalence. The Kite Runner is the first novel of Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. Since its first publication in June 2003, it has been sold over ten million copies in the past seven years and translated into more than forty languages. Li Jihong’s Chinese translation Zhui Fengzheng De Ren 《追风筝的人》 is also so popular to all the Chinese readers.
Based on these facts, this paper aims to analyze Li Jihong’s translation of The Kite Runner under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory. When appreciating the outstanding translation works, firstly, since Nida puts forward readers’ response theory in the functional equivalence, the author of this thesis attempts to analyze how Li achieves functional equivalence especially in the respect of reader’s response. Later, at cultural level, the author studies how Li Jihong processes cultural transformation in his translation. Finally, the author cites some examples to show stylistic equivalence in Li Jihong’s translation. Li Jihong’s Chinese translation Zhui Fengzheng De Ren 《追风筝的人》 is really a good case to study how Nida’s functional equivalence works in this translation, and prove the feasibility of the theory of functional equivalence in practical process of literary translation. The successful translation practice of Li Jihong’s translation should be studied by other literary translation researchers.

摘要:尤金·奈达是位成绩斐然,影响深远的翻译理论家和实践家。他提出了著名的功能对等理论。《追风筝的人》是阿富汗裔美籍作家卡勒德·胡塞尼的第一部小说。自2003年6月第一次出版后,该书受到广泛的关注和好评,并被翻译成40多种文字,销售量超过一千万本。而李继宏的中译本《追风筝的人》在中国也深受广大读者喜爱并获得巨大成功。
本文旨在从尤金·奈达的功能对等理论角度研究李继宏译《追风筝的人》。首先,从奈达功能对等理论的重要成果——读者反应论出发,分别在词汇、句法层面分析译本所能达到的读者反应效果。其次,在文化层面上,解析李继宏利用何种方法在翻译过程中进行文化移植。最后,在风格对等的角度对该译本进行文本分析,解析译文与原文是否达到风格对等。李继宏的中译本达到了如原文般的读者反映效果。这是一个很好的翻译研究案例,也是很有价值的文学研究文本,对该译本进行研究和学习将有益于与之类似的文学翻译实践。
